Map Page Layout
Overview
The Map page layout displays a map with filterable location types indicated by typical online map
location pointers. The locations themselves are determined by the contents of the Map Locations list at
the root level of the site. The Map Locations list in turn depends upon entries in the Map Location Types
list to populate one of it’s columns. The Map Location Types also populate the filtering options on the
page.
The filter choices indicate which categories are being filtered out, selecting a choice will remove those
items from the view of the map and the locations list on the right of the page.
Things to know:
- The two lists that this page layout pull from are included in each default site that is delivered. There is no need to build new custom lists for this feature.
- The page layout is not customizable
- There is one set of lists per site. Any Map Page Layout will call on the same list and show the same filters. A Map Layout page cannot be pointed to a different list, so it makes sense that one map page would be present in a given site.

The Map Locations Type list
The Map Location Types list populates the Location Type field in the Map Locations list and the filter categories on the Map Page itself. The list resides alongside the Map Locations list at the root of the site. There should ever only be one Map Location Types list in a site collection. Adding to this list, will expand the possible choices in both places, editing list items will make the same change in both places and deleting list items will remove the choices from both places. Removing a list item from this list will also affect the existing filtering of Map Locations on the page. It is not suggested to delete list items from this list.
