Notes
Using images on a page is a common authoring task that requires contribute permissions in the site.
- Images must be prepared before uploading to an images library
- Large images, such as the splash image at the top of the page, should be around 100kb or less
- Smaller images on the page should be around 25kb or less

Image considerations
Splash Images
- Should be around 100kb or less
- Should be a JPG file at least 1280px x 500px
- Details about the splash image are found in the Header article in the Sitewide branding section
Task Box Images
- Should be around 25kb or less
- Look best when they conform to these parameters:

Other Images
As the saying goes "An image is worth 1000 words." be sure that your images earn their way on to the page by that standard. An image is only warranted if it adds value to the page and clarifies the point, process or subject matter of the page. Keep in mind that images use up data when loaded on a page. Much of the traffic to Oregon.gov sites is now originated from mobile devices and not everyone has fast internet in their region or has an unlimited data plan. Many images or images that are too large can degrade performance for users with slower internet speeds and gobble up data for users on limited data plans. Keep your images to a minimum, sized appropriately and purposeful to the page.
