Add Columns to Libraries
Overview
Adding Columns to Libraries is very much the same as adding columns to lists, but is probably done for different reasons. List columns contain data that is likely to be displayed on a web page while library columns probably contain meta data related to the document for the purpose of categorizing and filtering the documents in the libraries so that various documents in a single library may be displayed in diverse groups. While it is perfectly acceptable to do, the column values in library columns might never be publicly displayed.
Libraries with columns set as required values
If a library has columns set to required values, then the library essentially has draft versions enabled. Uploaded documents cannot be made publicly available until the required column value(s) are satisfied and the documents have been checked in.
