Staging & Production Environments - Logging in to Edit
Introduction to the Different Environments
Our SharePoint system includes several different development environments. The two environments accessible to the Oregon.gov system are Staging, & Production. Each of those also have an authoring environment. It is this authoring environment we utilize to create, edit or remove content from the website.
URLs for each environment
Production
Depending on your agency and your team, you will most likely only be familiar with our Production environment. This is what visitors see when the come to your website. Here is an example of a production URL (OHA chosen at random for example):
https://www.oregon.gov/oha/Pages/index.aspx
Production Authoring
The authoring environment is where you will login and edit the website (You will need permissions on that site in order to do so). Here is an example of a production URL (OHA chosen at random for example):
https://www-auth.oregon.gov/oha/Pages/index.aspx
To edit a site within the production environment, be sure to use the authoring URL. This can be accessed on any page on the site. Just navigate to that page, then add '-auth' after 'www' in the URL bar:
This will bring up a login prompt. Once you enter your username and password you now be within the authoring environment at that location.
Staging
If you have worked within a Redesign DIY or a WOC Redesign with Tyler Oregon, you might be familiar with our Staging Environment. This is commonly used to build new sites prior to deployment, as a sandbox to test new development, or to train new team members how to update a site. Here is an example of a staging URL (OHA chosen at random for example):
https://stage.oregon.gov/oha/Pages/index.aspx
Staging Authoring
As with Production, the authoring environment is where you will login and edit the website (You will need permissions on that site in order to do so). Here is an example of a staging URL (OHA chosen at random for example):
http://stage-auth.oregon.gov/oha/Pages/index.aspx
Editing a site within the staging environment works the same way it does in production, by just using the staging authoring URL. This can be accessed on any page on the site. Just navigate to that page, then add '-auth' after 'stage' in the URL bar:
This will bring up a login prompt. Once you enter your username and password you now be within the authoring environment at that location.
